Dissertation | UR Voice: Poster campaign

*/ Art work update /*

Right this has been long awaited since I had started this project, the purpose for this was that we was given an option for our dissertation to do on of the following:

1. A full 8-9000 word essay on our chosen subject
2. 30 mins presentation and 5-6000 word essay
3. An Art piece followed by a 3-4000 word essay

So I had chose to go down the route of doing option 3.

My topic for the dissertation was 'Does graffiti and protesting give a voice to the public?'. I had chose this because the recent and previous stories in the media about countries going into the recession, going to war and other political issues that are going on.

As well as these stories coming there is always some kind of protest, graffiti or opinion pointed out through letters, posters and over social media platforms. This is what had caught my eye into the topic which is is their/our voice heard by the government or any other high authorities.

Where my project had differed was that I had gone out to ask the public them selves what they feel about the things that surround them that are dealt by the government.

As spoke about in my previous post about my dissertation (http://alturl.com/3ev5j) they had come up with a lot points that they thought that had effected them if not themselves but also those around them they don't even know.

After gathering the feedback I had selected a few to then place them into a poster with a photo of the person holding up their views. (the following people did give me their consent to use their photos for my project)

Posters:

The point of having the environment that they are in included in the image was to show off their characteristics and what kind of vibe it has within the place they are in. Some of these are taken through out of Manchester City Center and some are done in the Affleck's Palace and around the Northern Quarter.

By the way the colours that are set on these posters are not of those that are done in print for some reason they have come out a lot darker on computer sorry!

On the left and right are the final out comes of the posters and the tones of the actual images are done to set the tone that the campaign is serious as well as the messages are serious and should be taken into consideration.

The type face I had used was custom because the nature of the campaign mainly revolve around the do's, dont's, money and right from wrong soo that's why the interrogation of the numbers and symbols have been done.

For the final out com of the poster here is an example on how they would look if they where placed into an ad shell in the city center:

Sorry for this being a blagh of a post but on a serious note this is something important to consider when it comes to what you may think the future will/would be like if the voice of the public is not put into consideration. We have a right to choose what kind of world we live in and I think like the rest of the people I have spoke to we should be able to have the right to air this.

I would like to thank again those who had helped out through this project which are named in the last post and also the following:

Dissertation - Giving The Voice To The Public

Right OK me and my very good mate 'Alim' had gone to Manchester City Center yesterday to ask the public on what they think of the government and issues that revolve around them. We asked them to write their views down on to paper and stand with their sign to show how they feel.

Non of these signs have been modified by me these are the views of the public.

Over the weekend I will be sorting out the images that had been taken of those who made an effort to take part in this project but for now I have the images of the views that had been put forward.

Alim Karmali - 'All we ever do is vote for puppets'

Bag man  - 'Who ever it s they are all the same all take and no give!'

JIGZ26 / Myself - 'Our future education is ruined!'

Josh / Student - 'The government encourage our generation to fail, it favor's, only the upper class'

Damon / Student - 'You are not gona take away our dreams'

Radha 'Cruz' Parmer - 'Government is not the solution, government is the problem!'

Dave Muirhead / @ThreeSixtyDave - 'The media is distorting reality', 'There must be balance between the left and right', 'We shouldn't have to talk about equality in this day and age'

BY.EK - 'Art = History + Culture, make the money for the arts', 'Rich  getting richer, poor getting poorer, Fuck the bankers! + David Cameron'

Raff / The Bus Man - 'I don't really mind the government'

Paddy - 'The government should put their hands in their pockets and keep their knickers up and fuck off'

Dan - 'They dont cater for the old, young or the everyday person', 'They want a one world government, and you can see it happening'

Chris Hall - 'No More Wars'

Stickman Dan - 'I am fairly apathetic towards politicians to think that the one who crave change and positive progression are far and few between'

Mark Roberts / Homeless Guy - 'Government should change themselves. one word, Wankers'

Jake / ArcaneIllusions - 'Youth aren't heard!'

Ruweyda and Pascaline - 'University admittance should be about the person and not the money'

@mslowhitney - 'Because of university fees going up, I may not have a future in further education'

J. Yeoman / Flower Man - 'Piss Takers'

LJFrack Leondel - 'People Voice Fair'

Mollie Haq / @molliehaq, Amy Aldred, Leaoni Harrison  / @leoniHarry12 - 'Not got money for the homeless, but they've got money for wars!'

Sorry for the language in a few of these views but at the end of the day these are views of the public and are done through pure anger, emotion and feelings that are towards the government and what surrounds them.

Pictures of these being held up by the writers will be up soon!!!.

Thanks again to everyone who helped out and put their voices forward.

Dissertation: Visual Proposal

Having researching various website that hold information about anti-war movements,
I realized that the websites have a lot of written content which when it comes to accessing information this is great but big bulky site with just words and no imagery makes it to hard to take in what is happening and where to go.

These are the websites that I had looked at to see what already is out there:

http://antiwar.com/
http://www.iraqbodycount.org/
http://www.notinourname.net/
http://www.labouragainstthewar.org.uk/
http://lgbtnoise.ie/?page_id=2
http://www.stopwar.org.uk/
http://www.votenowar.org/

After looking at these websites I see where they woek in the sense of giving out information, imagery and knowledge of what is going on around us and how people are reacting towards them, but there was not much of people getting their views across on the websites apart from 'Notinourname.net' and 'lgbtnoise.ie'.

Even though 'lgbtnouse.ie' is t do with allowing the gay community to speak out this website had the clean and fresh look that does not make it look dull with full of writing. But this website allows people to write in, comment and also send in videos of them seleves expresing what they feel about the subject.

By looking at these websites I have a clear direction in how I am going to design my site and how content will be laid out.

Dissertation: How the influence of graffiti work in anti-war movements

Making a start on my dissertation work finally!!!!

Right I have chose a 50/50 option for my dissertation work which means that 50% of my work has to be a visual that I have created for my chosen subject and a 3-4000 word essay on my subject and visual piece.

What I have decided to talk about is how graffiti works with anti war movements and protesting to get the public's views and opinions across to the politicians who decide to go ahead with the wars they create.

From this I am going to create a website campaign which will gather peoples thoughts and views of the issues that are happening currently around the world. This is going to be done by creating pages on social networking site like Facebook and Twitter to collect the views of the people who are in these conflicts and also those who disagree with what is happening around them.

My second visual I am going to create 3 individual posters for this campaign to promote people to talk about what they think is happening right and also to acknowledge their views even if they don't have a connection to the country.

If anyone has read this please could you leave a comment of your views on the wars that have happened, also you views on the political issues that are going and have happened recently and would you take part in a anti war/political demo to get your views across.

Thank You for taking your time to read this and appreciate all your comments that come through.
